Why Do We Need SLS🌍🌙

Normal rockets are great for satellites — but the Moon is 239,000 miles away, and Artemis needs to carry a crew capsule, a service module, and tons of supplies. Drag payloads into the rocket and discover what happens.

Attach the Solid Rocket Boosters🚀

Twin boosters flank the Core Stage and provideover 75%of launch thrust during the critical first two minutes of flight. NASA upgraded from 4-segment Shuttle boosters to a new design for SLS — which one?

4-Segment Booster
The classic Space Shuttle booster design. Reliable, but less powerful.
5-Segment Booster
A longer, upgraded booster with extra propellant for SLS's heavier payloads.

The Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS) uses a single RL10 engineto send Orion toward the Moon. It's flown on Artemis I, II, and III. Click the engine to ignite it.
